Parent Education

Montessori U

Montessori U is MIR’s program for parent education. Our goal is to help you understand your children’s development, and share how we educate your children according to their development.

Take advantage of Montessori U to

  1. Understand the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive milestones your child will reach at each stage of development.
  2. Gain a clear picture of how your children are growing and thriving in their time at MIR.

Montessori U classes are designed to fit the style and schedule of as many parents as possible. They include:

  • Seminar-style classes -- Parent Education Nights are often seminar classes
  • Discussion-based classes -- Coffee, Tea, and M.E., Lunch with the Teacher, and the Positive Discipline Parenting Course are discussion-based
  • Hands-on classes and events -- Some Parent Education Nights, Journey & Discovery, Parent-Child Nights, and the Parent-Infant Class offer hands-on education
  • Guided observations -- For Lower Elementary classes. This is a new program that we are piloting with our Lower Elementary classes this year.

Coffee, Tea, & M.E. (Montessori Education) and Lunch with the Teacher
Hosted by an administrator and a teacher, these classes will focus on the development of your child at the age noted and show how Montessori education takes advantage of the characteristics of that age for optimal learning.

Journey & Discovery
Held on a Saturday, this event gives you an immersive introduction to Montessori education at all ages. You'll take a silent journey through every level, then work with the teachers in the classroom. Discussions hosted by administrators will help answer your questions about what you've seen and done.

Parent-Child Nights
This is one of the children’s favorite activities, where they lead you in typical class activities. The event allows you to see for themselves what your child is learning. Teachers are on hand to guide the children as necessary.

Positive Discipline Parenting Course
Parenting is easy until you have a child! This is a fun class where you can get help from trained parenting experts and your peers with those discipline issues you just can't seem to solve.

Parent-Infant Class
For children 0-17 months and their parents, this class will show you how to help support your child's development. You'll bring your baby to the class and work with them using Montessori materials and apparatuses, guided by Jacq Chandler, Admissions Director and Montessori-trained for these ages.
