Maria Montessori observed that children developed in stages, in 6 year cycles with smaller 3 year cycles in these stages. (She called these stages "planes of development.") Within these stages, children display certain characteristics and their brains are going through identifiable changes. These observations have been confirmed by recent research. We share these stages and their characteristics her to help you understand your child better, and how to respond to and discipline your child according to their developmental stage.
