You may volunteer your time in the classroom, volunteer with PTM as a room rep or by supporting events, or volunteer at school functions such as the MIR Spring Gala & Auction. A time commitment does not have to be large to be meaningful.
Many classes are looking for volunteers to share their talents with the students on specific projects or who can present about their field of expertise. For example, each year many parents from local software company Esri lead activities on the annual GIS Day in November. A parent who is an ophthalmologist teachers upper elementary students about the eye, and leads the students in dissecting cow eyes.
Whether your talent is GIS, ophthalmology, music, language, art, science, commerce, coding, or something else, ask your child's teacher about volunteering.
MIR raises money through donations to the MIR Fund and the Spring Gala & Auction. MIR Fund gifts may be tax-deductible -- ask your tax preparer. Gifts may also be eligible for matching funds from employers.
Monetary donations may be made in the following ways:
- Mail. Fill in the pledge form mailed to your family in October or with the Annual Report and return it either in person to the office or by mail.
- Online. Pledge or donate using our online form.
Donors who give $1,000 or more will be honored with an engraved paving stone or other landscape feature in our Legacy Garden path.
Donations to the MIR Fund are used for:
- Student financial assistance
- Faculty training and development
- Improvements to the campus
MIR's 6th year Elementary students raise money through Box Tops for Education and hold three small fundraisers each year to pay for their trip in spring to Washington, D.C.
Office Depot 5% "Back to Schools" Program
You can receive credits for free supplies by purchasing qualified items online or at Office Depot stores, and at the same time allow MIR to benefit. MIR uses the money from this program for paper, pencils, pens, and other school necessities. Our ID number is 70012761.
Shop through Amazon just like you normally do by using Smile.Amazon.com and Amazon will donate a small percentage of your purchases to MIR.
The key is to get in the habit of using smile.amazon.com (rather than www.amazon.com) as your default shopping page. On your first visit to smile.amazon.com, you will be asked to select a charitable organization before you begin shopping.
Box Tops for Education
General Mills, Ziploc, Avery, and many, many other brands participate in the Box Tops for Education program. Each pink Box Top is worth $.10. Cut out the pink "official coupon" from your product, drop it in the designated container in your child's classroom, and MIR's 6th years will do the rest. (See list of participating products.)
