Culture

Values

In our work with the children and each other, we will embody the values of Safety, Empathy, Clarity, and Joy.

  • Safety: Support, to the best of our ability, the physical and psychical safety of each person.
  • Empathy: Respect each other’s feelings and treat each other with compassion.
  • Clarity: Be clear, consistent, and inclusive, to the extent possible, in our actions and words.
  • Joy: Reflect our sense of gratefulness, contentment, playfulness, and happiness.

Actions and Practices

We, the staff of MIR, will work together to create a welcoming, safe, and respectful professional environment. When we interact with one another, we will work to foster an environment in which each person understands that they are a valued, integral member of the community. In order to accomplish this, we will:

  1. Welcome and acknowledge each person.
  2. Respect and appreciate each person’s strengths and abilities.
  3. Encourage clear, open, honest communication.
  4. Model the behavior we wish to see in others.

Uncomfortable feelings and conflict are inevitable. Together, we will address these situations by

  1. Venting frustration in an appropriate manner, avoiding gossip or blame.
  2. Being respectful and discerning when holding conversations, ensuring that the privacy and confidentiality of others are a priority.
  3. Listening actively with the intent to hear and reflect, not react and defend.
  4. Resisting the urge to counsel or correct the other person.
