The Prepared Environment
Maria Montessori pioneered the concept of a learning environment designed specifically to facilitate independent learning in children. Each space offers developmentally appropriate materials and activities that promote learning.
AMI-Trained Teachers
Students are guided by caring teachers with deep expertise in child development and broad subject knowledge.
Montessori Materials
The Montessori materials are designed to be beautiful, functional, and engaging and offer a concrete way for children to learn. Learning becomes more abstract for older students, with materials to assist learning as needed.
Physical Education
All students participate in formal physical education with a P.E. teacher and P.E. activities with their class.
Applied and Performing Arts Education
All classes provide age-appropriate music activities and instruction. Students ages 3 and older receive instruction in fine arts, music, and dramatic arts. This learning is integrated into Montessori education, not set aside as an “extracurricular.”
Cultural Education
Students at all levels are exposed to the Spanish language and cultures. MIR’s Spanish program emphasizes communication through immersive activities, helping students learn to speak, comprehend, and read Spanish, while also fostering cultural literacy through exposure to the arts, literature, and music of diverse Spanish-speaking communities.
