- Critical thinking
- Intellectual growth
Guided by teachers rigorously trained in child development, students build their social-emotional, executive functioning, and leadership skills while continuing their:
- Language development
- Physical development
- Cognition and learning
The Montessori Primary curriculum for ages 3–6 is thoughtfully designed as a three-year cycle that supports this important stage of development, guiding children’s learning and growth while fostering independence, concentration, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
MIR encourages families to plan for their child’s continued enrollment throughout the three-year cycle in order to fully benefit from the Montessori Primary experience.
The Primary Curriculum
Practical Life
The Practical Life exercises lay the foundation for all the other work and satisfy the child's deep need for independence. Through daily living activities, the child gains confidence and mastery of the environment, learns to control and coordinate their movements, develops concentration, and attains the dignity that comes from contributing meaningfully to their community.
Academics
Primary students have abundant opportunities for academic learning. Working at their own pace, they learn writing, reading, math, geography, science, art, singing, music, history, and more, driven by their interests and capabilities. Students use beautifully crafted, hands-on materials that allow them to learn in developmentally appropriate ways using all five senses.
